The Playgroup’s Playground: MTG Proxies and Designing Custom Formats

We’ve all had those late-night sessions where we dream up the wildest Magic: The Gathering formats. “What if we played a format where every card was a planeswalker?” or “How about a format with only cards from Un-sets?” These ideas are fantastic, but actually playing them? That’s where things get tricky, and where mtg proxy cards, and MTG Cardsmith, become a playground for our imaginations.

I’ve always been the one in my playgroup who loves to tinker with the rules. I’d spend hours brainstorming custom formats, but we’d always hit a wall when it came to actually playing them. The cards we needed were either impossible to find or ridiculously expensive.

Then, I discovered MTG Cardsmith. The platform was incredibly easy to use, and I could design proxies of any card imaginable. I decided to try it out, creating proxies for a custom format we called “Legendary Tribal,” where every card had to be a legendary creature.
